What Next?
So you've registered your new domain, what now?
- All your stationery should display your new e-mail address. A general enquiry address should be shown
i.e: info@example.com. This address can be placed on vehicles
and other advertising materials. Another possibility is to use a different
e-mail address for each promotional medium, that way you can gauge which advertising is
most effective.
Remember that
initially all mail sent to your domain will be forwarded to you.
Each employee should be given a unique
e-mail address (i.e. janew@example.com, fred.martin@example.com
etc.) for their business cards. Avoid single names like: john@example.com as they tend to attract SPAM.
Always consider registering additional name variations, see our domain
names support page.
Your website address should also be shown. The full address will be: http://www.example.com
This can be abbreviated to: www.example.com
or even: example.com, if required. You can also capitalise if you wish i.e: www.example.com,
although strictly speaking domains should always be entered in lower case.
- Mark all your property and capital equipment with an e-mail address, we suggest: lost@example.com.
This is more portable than either a postcode or a phone number.
- Get your website up and running quickly. The sooner it has useful
information the sooner it is earning its keep. See our Web Page Authoring Guide. Remember you can alter your site on an hourly basis.
- Keep a backup of your site.
- Submit your site to search engines, see Search Engines & Directories.
- Get your site listed on relevant jump sites.
- We trap e-mails to certain addresses for our internal use.
